Cruise Ship Terminals

Venice Italy Tourist Information and City Guide

Effective in 2022, the Italian government has banned all but the smallest cruise ships from using the old cruise terminal (Stazione Marittima) located near Piazzale Roma (central bus terminal) and the Santa Lucia Train Station.

All other ships arrive and depart at other ports on the Italian mainland:

  • Venice-Marghera (an industrial port 12 km or 20 minutes away)
  • Ravenna (145 km or 2.5 hours away)
  • Monfalcone near Trieste (130 km or 1.5 hours away)

Please confirm with your cruise line:

  1. where your ship will be docked
  2. where you need to check-in for your cruise
  3. what options are available for transfers

In many cases, passengers on large cruise ships will continue to check in at the old Marittima cruise port.  They will then be bussed to the appropriate port on the mainland.
